The star has donated the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which works to save the United Kingdom's grassroots concert spaces.

Fender was awarded the prize on October 16 as his latest record his work was chosen as the top album of the previous year.

Fender has chosen to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the essential function local spots fulfilled in his beginning days.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing this success if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the area, and further afield, when I was starting out," said the artist. "These spaces are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately 16% of the entire UK sector.

Recently, major artists like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its attempts to help venues survive, by adding a modest fee to their ticket costs, which benefits local stages.

Fender also participated, collecting more than £100,000 on his recent tour to support thirty-eight local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds assisted venues that were dealing with possible closure due to challenges arising from flooding, blazes and bereavements, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Other venues received funding support in improving facilities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted performers and concertgoers.

"The idea that money from performances in big venues backs the smaller venues, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has said.

The musician is far from the only musician to contribute his award winnings to charitable organizations.

When Pulp won the award in the year 1996 for their album Different Class, frontman Cocker stated that the act would contribute their cash to the organization War Child.

During 2002, musician the artist divided her prize among several organizations, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also contributed a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked new equipment," the artist explained to the media.

Two years ago, they donated their prize money to the community center that supported their band, as well as other local music groups.

Additionally the 1994 recipients M People donated their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was diagnosed the disease.

"Winning was ample," stated singer Heather Small. "The money was the extra but we didn't need the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our victory affected the lives of others."

Recently, the MVT announced it had saved two small stages in that region, by transferring them to local control.

The first in the city and the other in that location were bought under the Own Our Venues program, which is supported by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who buy "stakes" in the properties.
